About the AuthorsAt the age of nine, Don lost an eye in a battle with cancer. In 1984, the Detrich's youngest daughter, Lo, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, an incurable illness. Terry and Don have been married twenty-five years and are the parents of two daughters, Jane (19) and Lo (16). Their efforts to maintain a normal family life while providing their child with the best available medical care has evolved into opportunities to share their experiences with others.
In 1995, they were invited to be keynote speakers at Coram Healthcare's National Convention of Executives and Managers. Inspired by the enthusiastic response of five hundred professionals, they decided to undertake the project of writing about the impact that their child's chronic illness has had on their family. Their recently completed book is entitled The Spirit of Lo. Terry and Don are frequent speakers to professional, civic and educational organizations regarding professional and personal topics.
